Day 264: Craving Familiarity

The thing about human beings is that despite the want for change is that they crave for familiarity and this is supported by Abraham Maslow's Hierarchy of needs. As in the second part from the bottom is safety needs which means that we will always look for something familiar. This is the reason why SM malls are popular no matter where you are in the country or how kids love Jollibee even when they grew up. It became a business but it grows deeper than that.

Have you ever noticed how difficult it is to sleep in anywhere besides your home? in campings or other people's houses we have a tendency to stay awake as our brain are perceiving this new environment as a threat. We will always find something that is familiar to us and that is human nature but this very human nature is the reason why some of us are broken beyond repair.

Even the people who hurt us and the situations that only damaged us will always be a place to run into, not because you wish for pain but rather despite the perceived repercussions you will always see this person or scenario as familiar therefore limiting yourself to grow. Heck, this could damage the nation of this sense of familiarity is always sought after especially when it is sought collectively by the masses.

There is no easy solution for this as science had dictated it. But if you wish for the familiarity of peace to come, learn to stand your ground. It will be a difficult road to lose the need of familiarity but you also have to realize that progress and innovation comes from discomfort.
