Troubled Luna (Part 6: Brawl)

The next few weeks, Luna was still a bit distraught but is not fragile to Emily’s advances, who were slowly giving up anyway. After a few weeks Matthew, Luna, Andre and Joana heard that she was dating some guy who which in turn cheated on her.

“Serves her right” Luna said

“No one deserved to be cheated on, but yeah serves her right” Joana followed, visibly intoxicated.

Andre was face palming as the two girls were getting louder by the moment and Matthew started napping on the pillow on his bag.

“It’s the end of the semester, let loose Matthew!” Exclaimed the girl

“Mhm mmm”

Luna was dancing wildly along with Joana when three guys approached them and was making malicious remarks. Andre ran to Matthew saying that Luna and Joana are in trouble and Joana is already frozen in fear. He slammed Matthew’s head hard to which Matthew slapped him back.

“Our friends are in trouble aren’t you concerned?”

“I’m more concerned with the guys though”

“Huh? What do you mean?”

“It’s Luna, she’ll be fine. She always is.”

“Those are three guys half her size”

“Yeah, I hope she doesn’t kill them”

“Argh! You’re useless!”

As Andre was about to rush on Luna’s aide, Matthew grabbed his shirt

“Don’t get in her way”

Joana ran to the boys frantically and bumped Matthew on the head, asking him to help Luna.

Brushing the part where his head was whacked twice, he flicked the hands of his two friends.

“Watch.”

One guy wrapped his arm around Luna’s waist and she retaliated by twisting the guy’s arm and before the other guy could help his friend, she already kicked the guy with a high kick on his chin. He threw the guy to the other and followed with a square punch to his mouth. The kicked guy composed himself and grabbed a beer bottle.

The two was startled while Matthew merely complained about the noise.

Before the guy could attack Luna, she made a split and elbowed the guy in the crotch making him squeal. Grabbing his leg and making him fall down and bump his head.

“Did he die?” Andre asked

“Damn it Luna, don’t overdo it” Matthew mumbled in his pillow.

Few guys went to the guy and shouted “He’s fine! Just a concussion”

Luna drank straight another bottle of beer and punched the guy in the face, waking him up to which he screamed in terror prompting him to run for the door. The two guys were awake and one of them shouted that it’s not over.

“Is that a threat?”

Spitting at the floor, Luna charged at the two guys, grabbed their faces and smashed them at the tables. The disco lights of the resort shifted to a bright light with the owner furious that a brawl occurred. Everyone sided with Luna saying that it was self defense but the trauma of the three would beg to differ.

In the middle of the crowd as the alcohol kicked in Luna broke down and cried “Why can’t I meet good people!”

Hiding the pillow at his bag, Matthew went to Luna and said: “there there, let’s get you home okay?”

“Take her home, we’ll explain everything to the owner and possibly pay for the damages” Joana said.

“You think they’ll press charges?” Andre while playing with his thumbs

“We’ll be fine, a bunch of people got drunk and got rowdy, happens all the time. Let me take the lead”

Piggybacking Luna, Matthew nodded to the two and grabbed the dorm keys from Joana. Everyone in the room was looking at Luna with disbelief that the one who was just beating up three guys at once is now asleep on a piggyback ride.

They left the resort and walked to her dormitory because no public vehicles were to be seen at that hour. Matthew was focused on trekking the path while Luna was still mumbling some things that Matthew acts as if he could understand. Matthew never really understood Luna but somehow he knows what to say or do everytime. Some are amazed because more often than not, he is unaware or does not care about his surroundings.

Halfway through the walking, Luna patted Matthew’s shoulders and  vomited at the side of the road. Matthew gave her cold water to drink.

“Seems like you can walk right, let’s go”

She started crying again and when Matthew offered his back again, Luna hopped immediately.

After a few minutes they were finally at the dormitory. He laid her down on her bed and got fresh clothes that she can change on once Joana got home.

His phone rang and it was Andre saying that there will be no charges to be pressed but they have to pay for the damaged tables. He asked if Matthew could watch Luna until he sends Joana home too. In that moment Matthew also realized that it was Andrea who has a car so why didn’t he helped Luna instead of having him carry her. Andre laughed and then hung up.

Napping on the couch, Matthew felt movements and saw Luna sitting up on her bed.

“Feeling fine?”

“Better than earlier, what happened?”

“I’ll fill you in, the morning”

“Where’s Joana?”

“Just fixing some things, she’ll be back soon”

Puckering her lips and slowly fading out, Matthew ran to Luna so she wouldn’t hit her head.

“Do you like me Matthew?”

“Yes, you’re really great at chemistry and physics”

“I mean romantically”

Luna’s heart was beating fast as well as Matthew’s. It was dark and the crickets and the faint light of the moon and stars was lighting the room. She was leaning for a kiss and then

“Sorry, I don’t kiss drunk girls” Matthew said as he held her back from kissing him.

Luna laughed and insisted that she’s not drunk.

“Why can’t I meet good people like you?”

“Well Andre and Joana are good people like me” he quipped

“Yeah but you know, in a romantic way”

Matthew looked deep into her eyes searching for a feeling.

“I love you Matthew date me!”

He laughed

“Don’t laugh at me jerk, say it back”

“It back”

“Jerk”

“You’re just drunk, you’ll be better in the morning”

“Marry meeeee, promise I won’t chase red flags anymore”

Then she suddenly she went back to sleep.

Laying her down, he went back to the couch and took a nap.

Joana got home minutes later and saw the two snoring loudly.
