Upon stepping on the park, Luna felt a sudden surge
of
confidence as the little voice that Matthew mentioned spoke to her.
“Choose yourself above all”
Creeping up by the nearby tree, Joana was called by a
freshman Kate. She shushed Kate away and continued creeping. She could not hear
anything and was instructed by Luna to only interfere when she sense trouble,
to which Joana thought to herself “the very presence of your girlfriend is
trouble already.”
Standing at the middle of the park, Luna saw her
girlfriend with a bouquet of roses, two guys with him carrying the poles of an
arc, three girls holding a banner saying “I’m sorry”, and a quartet of mixed
boys and girls singing “Sorry” by Justin Bieber. The only thing that is missing
is a troupe of dancers.
“Where the hell is this girl getting her money from?”
Joana thought to herself as she saw her batch mate Joyce charging to the scene
with her camera.
Luna felt different. The glamour that always amazes
her could simply not appease her anymore. To her all the roses in the bouquet
are rotten with prickly thorns, the singers are off-key, the arc was poorly
made, and the only feeling that her girlfriend gives is nothing. Not rage,
excitement, nor loneliness. For the first time in her life she felt nothing as
the voice inside persisted.
“Stand up Emily” Luna said with a piercing cold voice
as she grabs her by the shoulder and stops her from kneeling down.
Closing her first and raising it. Everyone who was
cheering and jeering stopped as the music disappears with the lowering of the
arc and banner.
Emily was sweating buckets and asked what is
happening. Insisting that it’s just a bump in their relationship.
“No, it was just a bump but now it’s a mountain I can’t
ignore”
Her girlfriend knelt down and went to her feet and
wept so hard that everyone passing by was compelled to look what was happening.
She screeched and cried so hard and the ever expressive Luna maintains her
stone-face.
“She sure loves theatrics” Joana said impatiently
while grasping to a branch
“Here throw this” Ben, from newsletter, gave her a
crumpled paper with a rock inside
“Idiot”
Luna knelt down raised Emily’s head up. Her face was
red and messed up. Smiling at Luna, thinking she is forgiven, she jumped to hug
her only to be pushed from the shoulders and fall to her back. Her smile
changed to horror as Luna tiles her head, gave a sharp creepy smile with her eyes
widened. Every word that she spoke pierced Emily that the ones who could hear
simply turned around and went away. Counting all her mistakes and times she
cheated, Luna went on and on, much to Joana’s delight.
“It’s over”
She stood up, composed herself and walked away. Emily
could not utter another word and was left in shock.
“Well that’s something” Ben said to Joyce as they
leave the scene
The park was eventually cleared out and Emily and her
friends were charged with littering as the petals and crepe paper
scattered. There were fireworks also
that they are supposed to light up but it got wet due to the rain making the clean-up
much more difficult.
Emily still bothered Luna a few more times after that
with each advances being turned down. She eventually gave up and still used the
narrative that it was Luna that was toxic one in order to gain sympathy.
“She’ll never change I guess” Andre said while playing
with his bottle of beer
“Who cares, I’m free anyway let her talk”
“Cheers to a smarter and freer Luna”
Matthew did not cheer as he was busy sleeping so Joana
bumped his head.
“Who sleeps in a bar undrunk?”
Luna, as always, could not hold her liquor well. After
two bottles she slept and was carried by her friends to her dormitory. But for
the first time in months, she slept smiling.
